synopsis

I’ve always been fascinated by ghosts. They’re simply lost souls looking for the conclusion to their story. After years of chasing the phantom of Stone into the night, I’ve sought to live and love again in the new chapter of my life. I’m not the naïve girl I once was. I know what I want, what I need. But like the tortured spirits wandering the earth, can I find the happy ending I crave or will the apparitions of the past destroy any chance of everlasting bliss?

Fairy dance

“You are delightful.” Jackson stared admiringly. I wore a magical dress as sheer as butterfly’s wings in the palest of blues. He held me in his arms. The lights in the gardens twinkled like lightning bugs. “This could have been the wedding of fairies. I’ve never seen such an affair. It must’ve been your idea.” Mamma shimmered in the silver mist of the twilight as Parker whirled her around the dance floor in the rose garden. “How did you know?” I giggled. “Too Shakespearean?” “No,” he said, grinning. “Absolutely charming. Especially the rainbow.” He held me tighter and twirled me around. “The rainbow was Sammy’s idea.” I glanced at my sister in her pale pink fairy gown dancing withTravis. I pushed away regret and clung to Jackson. “Let’s walk down our path to the river,” Jackson said. “I’d love to.” I put my arm in his. Summertime rose blooms covered the wrought iron arbor ahead. Passing under the archway, we left the gardens for the myriad of trails that led down to the river and marshlands. The full moon lit our path toward the footbridge and we avoided the muddiest areas. “Too bad we can’t dangle our feet.” I stepped out on the planks in three inch heels. “Maybe tomorrow.” He stopped walking. I took another step forward before twisting to him behind me. My heel jammed in the crevice of the wood. I leaned down to loosen the shoe. “I’d like to see you the day after that too—” I lost my balance. Air and then water twisted my body end over end over end. The current tugged and water began filling my lungs. Darkness drifted over me. “It’s okay, Andie. It’ll be okay. Please come back to me.” He cradled me in his arms. His lips brushed my forehead. “Stone, I want to come back.” Inky darkness swallowed me.

Excerpt   “How’ve you been since our last meeting?” “You mean our first.” I tilted my head. “That too.” He displayed the teeth of a tiger. “I hope you’ll believe me when I say I’ve wanted to see you again. I was waiting for the right time.” He paused, a wild look in his eyes. “And it looks like I found it. You look fabulous. Can we pick up where we left off?” “Where was that?” His arms encircled my waist and his lips found mine. The tides of emotion roared like the ocean in my ears. I closed my eyes and allowed the waves to carry me away. Swaying on my feet, it was good that when he broke the embrace he still held me by the shoulders or I would’ve collapsed. “Now, you offered me food,” he said. “Can I take you up on that? I really did miss dinner traveling.” “Sure,” I said, out of breath from drowning. The night passed like a swiftly flowing river.

synopsis

Booze. Brawls. Betrayal. The summer of 1988 changed everything. My parents separated, I left for college, and Stone Harrison lit my world like Apollo streaking across the sky. My obsession and desire for him overpowered all my sense and drained my sensibility as I fought to maintain control over my own destiny. Four years spent in pursuit of degrees and one certain soldier altered my future forever. Can I be the person I am destined to be with him or does a compromise of my soul spoil the perfect ending?

Excerpt

"Come with me." I grabbed Stone's hand and led him from the table, through the den, and up the stairs to my bedroom. I closed the door behind us. "Ta-da." I flourished my arms wide. "Welcome to my room."   "Nice. You've never shown me your room before. Anything else you want to unveil?" Mischief flashed behind his eyes.   "Maybe," I teased, touching his arm, "but first…" I skipped to the closet and lifted a box from the top shelf. "Your Christmas present. See, I didn't forget you." I carried the box to the edge of the bed.   "I could never forget you." He reached out and put both hands around my waist, pinning me to his body.   My knees made like a hot knife through butter—I melted at his touch. My arms went around his neck as his lips consumed mine. Fire jumped from his hands as they slid up to my breasts. Fighting the undeniable undulation of the tide, I pulled away and murmured, "I have to tell you something."   "I don't want to know." His lips found my neck.   "But—"   "Stop talking." He lifted me in his arms and laid me on the bed. The box fell to the floor. "Oh, Andie—I've wanted you so much." Skillfully, he began to unbutton my blouse. His powerful hands gripped my shoulders; his soft lips pressed against my skin. The blouse slid to the floor.   "I want you too." I responded, my hands groping for his belt.   "Do you?" His kisses ceased and he jerked away. He stared at the nightstand. "Do you," he repeated, "or do you want him?" He picked up the framed picture of Travis—arms encircling my waist, Christmas tree behind us in the background. The glass shattered as he threw it to the floor.
